Our Chapter

The University of New Haven College Republicans were established in 2004 by Cecilia Cullum (2006), Derick LaTorre & Heather Donahue. At a time when there were no political organizations on campus other than the Undergraduate Student Government Assosciation, our chapter became an excellent resource for the overall community. We were an asset to those who yearned to express their opinions, learn of other ideas out there, and to learn more about our great country and this world overall.

Today, we continue to move forward by providing educational forums, hosting fun events, and taking trips off campus to various speakers, conferences & service opportunities. An active member within the USGA, the UNH student & faculty body, as well as the overall Connecticut & national community, the University of New Haven College Republicans promise to continue their move forward.

Cecilia Cullum, Derick LaTorre and Heather Donahue saw potential in building an organization from the ground up focusing on conservative ideals for a conservative campus. In December 2004, they hosted their first meeting to only a handful of members, but that soon changed as their idea began to grow. Today, the UNH College Republicans are one of the most active organizations on campus, award winning state-wide and nationally ranked. We pay tribute to those who started with this small idea and turned into this great organization that has provided opportunities for so many. Thank you all.

Jay Swols, Chair

Jay Swols joined the UNH College Republicans early in the 2006-07 academic year. He was an active member and quickly became a regular with group meetings and outings. After attending CPAC 2007, Jay had a passion to do more with the College Republicans for the upcoming year. Now as Chapter Chair, Jay plans to offer more on-campus activities for the UNH student body sponsored the College Republicans. Even with the already great amount of pride found within the group's members, Jay plans on having more club-socials to increase the comradery of the members within.

He attended nearly every meeting, event and social, quickly becoming very well known within our community. Seth was the Executive Assistant for the College Republicans in the 2006-2007 year, and won the position for Treasurer for the 2007-2008 year.

Jumping at the opportunity to get involved on campus and make a difference, Lauren was recently elected Executive Assistant. She's  extremely excited to help get the College Republican name out on campus and is looking forward to a great year.
